Teaching: Assessment

 Ale and Kat

Teach to Pre-K Students:

- Explores the three levels of space (low, middle and high).

- Demostrates fast and sloe movements.

- Create movement patterns with groups.

- Responds to mood or feelings of various types of music.

Mini-Lesson Plan for Pre-K Students: Exploring Space and Movement

Component: Exploring Spatial Levels and Movement Dynamics

Objectives:

  • To explore the three levels of space: low, middle, and high.
  • To demonstrate understanding of fast and slow movements.
  • To encourage cooperation in creating group movement patterns.
  • To express feelings and responses to various types of music through movement.

Competency:

Students will effectively navigate and demonstrate movements in different spatial levels and tempos, showing early awareness of spatial orientation, rhythm, and emotional expression through dance.

Activity: "Space Explorers and Musical Moods"

  1. Space Exploration: Students move around the room as instructed by the teacher, who calls out "low" (crawling or rolling), "middle" (walking or skipping), and "high" (jumping or reaching up). This activity helps them physically experience and understand spatial levels.

  2. Tempo Tracks: Using a selection of music, students experiment with moving quickly to fast-paced tracks and slowly to slower melodies. This introduces them to the concept of tempo and how it affects movement.

  3. Dance Constellations: In small groups, students work together to create a simple dance sequence that incorporates movements at different levels and speeds. This encourages teamwork and creative thinking.

  4. Musical Moods: Students individually express how different pieces of music make them feel through free dance. This activity links emotions with physical expression and enhances musicality.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn to distinguish and demonstrate movements at different spatial levels.
  • Understand and exhibit the difference between fast and slow movements.
  • Collaborate with peers to create and perform a sequence of movements.
  • Recognize and express the mood or feelings evoked by different types of music.

Assessment:

  • Performance-based Evaluation: Observations during activities to assess students' ability to distinguish and demonstrate spatial levels and movement speeds.
  • Group Activity Feedback: Evaluate the effectiveness of group cooperation and the ability to create a coherent movement pattern as a team.
  • Reflective Discussion: Engage students in a conversation about how the music made them feel and which spatial level or tempo they preferred to move in, noting their ability to link emotions with physical expression.
